Recent
news in prestigious newspaper tells us that the studies have
confirmed that sperm count amongst Indian men is falling. The news
reads something like this,
"According
to Dr. Rinia Didi of AIIM, there has been a fall of 5% in sperm
quality annually, also 40 % men in reproductive age group record
gradual decline in qualitative and quantitative aspect of sperm
causing reduced conception. Stress in life is held probable reason
for that. IVP expert Dr. Mallick recently conducted a 10 years
comparison study on sperm quality and quantity in South-end Fertility
and IVP Center. According to that study, percentage of ejaculation of
semen is less than normal. That means, below 4ml. this is the lowest.
The morphological study of semen over last 50 years shows similar
down trend suggesting that the sperm are becoming gradually weak and
that may affect reproduction rate adversely as time passes. Over the
period as per the report as many as 38 % men show hypospermia that
means, these men are no more suitable for reproduction activity."
General
assessment based on such studies suggests that if this down trend
continues the way study shows, a time shall not be too far when
almost 80 percent men will be suffering from hypospermia; showing
clear sign of definite fall in population in the near future.
Most
experts are of the opinion that this fall is due to increase in
pollution in atmosphere and in water. They fail to explain why some
men suffer while other men continue to be fertile. However, I have a
different hypothesis to suggest and by that, I may point out to my
readers that here finally Nature has begun to play its role as
supreme controller of everything. Nature's law by some strange
phenomenon comes in force and takes over to keep matters from going
out of control. The functioning of this law is amazing and beyond the
purview of even the men of great vision.
It
works in the fashion, so that one is driven to accept that some
supreme element beyond man's imagination is actually supervising over
all the things happening here in this world. Generally, that supreme
element keeps out of the picture but as and when thing really, go out
of control it takes over the show. Nevertheless, the manner and style
it works is very ruthless. As if it intends to punish the world with
no mercy.
Simultaneously
we also observe that capacity to conceive in women is reducing
gradually. These two phenomenon together may in due course help in
controlling population explosion in our country. This effect has been
attributed to general increase in obesity in women. There are other
explanations to consider. One measure reason could be, lack of desire
for reproduction is financial problems society is passing through.
Second most important possible reason as suggested by some experts is
that, women are not wanting to conceive and that is mostly attributed
to rising awareness amongst them, level of education, desire for
career, awareness about already exploding population. Some experts
opine that as level of education improves and tendency to be more
scientific minded in all our problems grows, both men and women will
be more reluctant to have extra children. In earlier times children
were dying due to mostly lack of hygiene; that is also improving and
therefore, as a result population increase will be in control. Here
both forces such as of nature and human efforts will help keep our
population in control in future. Special attempt for family planning
may not be necessary.
